Our Community Cares Spotlights Karen Nevulis Akins and Denise Shepard Bambery! Two Braintree residents who have been working tirelessly on making masks for essential workers and our community at large! Together these two talented women have made over 1000 masks and are still going strong!
Karen and Denise are an awesome team! Karen is a full-time preschool teacher at Head Start in Quincy and is making these masks in addition to continuing to create activities and lessons for her students. Karen, who has always been an avid sewer, saw a request on a Facebook and knew she had to respond! Denise owns a small business, The Curtain Lady, that specializes in curtains, roman shades, cushions and much more. Denise understood the critical need for masks first hand because her daughter is a nurse.
Their love, dedication and consideration shines through with every mask they make having a unique theme and pattern. Both women want to continue sewing masks as long as there is a need, but unfortunately, fabric and elastic are becoming scarce. They are continuing to sew masks for the general public and essential workers so if you have any fabric or elastic to donate please let them know!
